Hey friends! The YYC Hot Chocolate Fest begins in just a couple of days on February 1st.
Ok ok ok, I know what you might be thinking “hot chocolate isn’t coffee!” But this other beloved brown beverage is one that I particularly enjoy, and I know it is enjoyed by many other Calgarians. And whether or not you’re a fan of the mocha, or hot chocolate with water, or milk, this drink has the incredible ability to warm our hearts in many of the same ways that coffee does.
From February 1st until the 28th cafés, restaurants & chocolatiers around the city offer their own signature hot chocolate drink with proceeds going to support Calgary Meals on Wheels. So not only do you get the chance to taste some incredible hot chocolate, you get to be a part of doing good to help provide meals to vulnerable Calgarians.
There are three categories that participants compete in:
1. Best Hot Chocolate
2. Best Spirited Hot Chocolate
3. Cup That Runneth Over
The best part about the YYC Hot Chocolate Fest, is that YOU determine the winner. Download the app through the app store on Apple or Android and find out who’s participating, learn more about each signature drink, and most importantly…vote! You can also vote through the YYC Hot Chocolate Fest website. All votes are tallied on March 1st and the winner gets bragging rights fo the year.
I love the opportunity to visit a number of cafés throughout the city and to sip on these amazing drinks. So when it’s cold outside, warm up with a cup of hot chocolate! Invite some friends, grab some family and have some fun!
To get a taste of what is to come during the Festival check out the YYC Hot Chocolate Fest Launch Event at SouthCentre Mall on January 31st from 4pm-7pm. Enjoy delicious free hot chocolate samples from the participating vendors and learn what’s in store for YYC Hot Chocolate Fest. To learn about this check out their Facebook Page.
I’d love to know which drinks you’ve tried, and what’s your favourite. I’ll post a few of my drink experiences on my Instagram feed. So leave a comment below or contact me through the site.
Here’s to a great YYC Hot Chocolate Fest!
