Profound Coffee Roasters

This afternoon I took a drive from Calgary up to Cremona. It’s about 45 minutes NW of the city along a gorgeous stretch of Hwy 22. Nestled away in this small town you will find Profound Coffee Roasters.

I first heard about Profound Roasters about a year ago when I saw their retail bags at The Gentry Cafe in Cochrane, and over the course of the past year I’ve had the chance to connect through social media with some of the team at Profound. This past March I was was even given the chance to sample some of their recent roasts and provide some feedback. It also doesn’t hurt that my buddy Michael and his family recently moved there, and has brought me back some of their coffee when he makes his way back to Calgary. I highly recommend their Ethiopian Asgori Natural. It was really nice.

For Canada Day they were opening up their roastery for tours and offering samples of their coffee to the public so I shot them a message and we made plans for the day. When I walked into the roastery, I met Trevor (one of the owners). He gave me a tour of their facility and shared about the story of how Profound began. They roast on a Deidrich IR-12 Roaster (same as what is used by Mark Michaelson–head roaster with Onyx Coffee Lab). They source their beans from Apex Coffee and have really selected some incredible beans to provide to their customers. The roastery is very clean, well laid out, and has a great place to cup coffees, and to brew drinks.

Trevor invited me to do something a little special during my time with him, and offered me the chance to sample an up-and-coming honey processed Colombian Geisha. The coffee was roasted to three different roast profiles and we sampled each of them and discussed our tasting notes. We brewed the coffee on some great Kalita Brewers, and sampled them from amazing Acme Cups. I’m really excited for this coffee when it get released to the public in the next couple of months!

Trevor and is team were super-knowledgable and really have a passion for helping people discover what great tasting coffee is like. The whole team was friendly and I even re-connected with their head roaster who used to be a barista at Cafe Euphoria here in Calgary! He even remembered and made me my favourite drink–a traditional cappuccino!

Thanks again to the folks at Profound. What a great experience!
